Happy New Year!

See my new background?

If you can, it's a photo I took of our neighbour's field, onto which I've moved the portrait of myself off-side, into the grass. I've been playing Hope's Queen-for-a-Day game today; you can tell by my crown there.

Anyhow, a new look for a new year.

I'm working on my own looks at the same time--a few new grey hairs have arrived, which I rather like. My new scar is healing beautifully and isn't even an inch long after all, once all the blood and ooze dried up and fell off; I'm liking that too. Today I tossed half my wardrobe out: things that have become too large or that were just never flattering to begin with are all going to Saint Vincent DePaul's donation box next week.

So I'm looking forward to 2009 already, with only five hours left in it as I write this. It will feel good to kick the first month of winter behind me anyhow, and look forward to Spring.

Maybe we'll get a summer this year, with a few days of sunshine and dry grass to go barefoot in. Maybe broadband will come to our village, who knows? Maybe I'll make a bit more money than I'm expecting, and come summer I can spend a week on a Breton seashore.

I love those maybes.

Meanwhile, here's a definite: I'll be toasting every one of you at midnight, GMT. 2008 has been a stinker, but your comments and support made it easier to bear, and brought me more smiles and joy than you know.

Thank you--
and
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Yeah, I get to be the first one here to wish you a magnificent New Year!

I can think of none more deserving than you for some good times. The nice thing is, when you find them, I'll know you'll share.

I raise a piece of chocolate in toast to you, my friend. :)

Happy New Year! And I will raise some fudge in a toast, since I've given up on the drink since it's now past midnight. (No, not in a New Year Resolution sort-of way; I'm just too tired to be bothered to drink more wine.)

Let's all hope for a peaceful and stable 2009.

Love your fields. Where do you get the templates. I'm on blogger but mine's boring as batshit and I'm not clever enough to customise them. Happy New Year . .may good things happen for you in 2009. Ah as for looks . . .must go and tint hair . .a little grey is fine but mine's bursting forth like a blackberry bush around a billabong! Big cheers!

Happy New Year, Susan! That is a very impressive change to your blog. I LOVE it. I think I'm going to be the last one to see the new year in. It's still an hour and a half away and I'm getting sleepy. I won't fall asleep though because the fireworks and firecrackers are making my neighborhood sound like a war zone. Incredible. Everyone warned me about this but I'm still surprised. Have a great start to the new year tomorrow!

Hope and Catherine, hooray! Here's to chocolate and fudge!

Baino, thanks! I've gotten backgrounds from Cutest Blog on the Block, but they also offer instructions on how to make your own, so I finally did, since I was laid up in bed with a cold anyhow. The instructions are on this page at their website.

Kay, Happy New Year at last! I hope you weren't kept awake too long last night. We lived in Belfast for a few years, and I was always amazed that people who claimed to be sick of gunfire and bombs could also be so fond of fireworks; they set them off every holiday. I found the noise hard to take after the first ten minutes or so.

Happy New Year, dear Susan.

Is that really you dancing in the fields in queenly garb?

Go girl! :)

Happy New Year! Here's to all those maybes and what may come of them.

I made a rather silly but probably necessary resolution this year. Be nicer to my husband. I think it will benefit the whole family unit as well if mommy isn't always publicly degrading daddy.

Your page is beautiful just like you and your writing. I especially like the banner!

Hi Ken! Yes that's me absolutely. I've always looked like that, but lately there seems to be a strange enchantment on me--whenever I look in the mirror, all I see is my mother looking back at me, instead of myself. Weeeird.

Ashley, thanks! I can be nicer to my husband too, now that the holidays are over and I might start cooling off. I'll just 'accidentally' lock him out of the house a few times while it's cold, and get it out of my system. LOL You're right, it's better for everyone---including ourselves.

Okay, why can't I see the new background? I see what appears to be a photo around the edges of a parchment type page.

Maybe my computer hasn't awakened yet.

Hope, that IS the background! I've taken down the Christmas tree and stars. You should be seeing a parchment sheet laid over a photograph of my home hills here, with a fairy queen on the right hand side who's holding up the parchment page...or suffering from cramp, to judge from her posture, but who knows?

Happy New Year to you! "Maybes" are wonderful, and I'm with you on 2008!

I'm getting literally an eighth of an inch of photo, if that much.

I will take your word for it...after all, Queen for a Day and the like. :)

Happy New Year! Thanks for your sweet thoughts about my babies leaving. I managed to cry less than I thought (only 2 episodes).

Today, after putting away all the rest of the Christmas decor (into the attic) I'm back to normal. Even slept in this morning, which is abnormal!
